Carey

Female · Young · 1 year

Hi everyone, I am Carey and I came to YCR after I was found as a stray in a garden with my kittens. I am now looking for my furever home and I have my very timid paws crossed it's with you. Life has been a little overwhelming for me and as a result I am extremely nervous around people. When I am frightened I may hiss or swipe to create space and protect myself, but this behaviour comes from fear rather than aggression. I am not the type of cat who will immediately seek affection or enjoy being handled. I need an understanding owner who is willing to work at my pace, respect my boundaries, and accept that trust may take a very long time to build. I may be happiest living primarily outdoors once I am settled and benefit from an environment where I can choose how much interaction I have with people. Due to my nature I would like a home with no dogs or children and no other cats. The lovely ladies here at YCR will explain everything to you. If you can provide me the home I am looking for please click "Apply Here" and fill in an application form. I am looking for an experienced owner that has had experience with cats with similar behaviour as me.

About Carey

What life with Carey looks like

Carey is a young adult cat waiting at Yorkshire Cat Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Yorkshire Cat Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Yorkshire Cat Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Yorkshire Cat Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
