Cary

Mixed Breed · Female

Help Cary: A patronship for a very special female dog! Cary has finally found a place after many highs and lows where she feels safe. She has been taken in by one of our dedicated staff members for a long-term foster placement, where she is lovingly cared for. Cary is blind and suffers from diabetes, which requires constant medical care and adjustment of her treatment. Particularly challenging is stabilizing her blood sugar levels, which have been difficult to maintain consistently so far. Cary requires daily blood sugar tests, syringes, insulin, and regular blood checks. This intensive care and the high veterinary costs make it necessary for us to seek support to continue providing the care and treatment Cary needs. Our wish is to eventually have Cary undergo an operation to restore her eyesight, but this is only possible once her diabetes is stabilized – a goal we continue to strive for. Due to her blindness, Cary could not be rehomed, but her caregiver is devoted to her and wishes to continue caring for her until the end of her life. To ensure Cary receives this loving care and necessary medical attention, we are relying on financial support. If you wish to help Cary, consider becoming her patrons. Any contribution – whether large or small – helps to improve Cary's life. Many thanks for your support and heart for Cary! Your team from this breed animal shelter our area is seeking a patronship for an animal with the following details: Age: approximately 9 years In shelter since: March 22, 2024 Breed: mixed breed Gender: female Origin: DE Cat-friendly: not known Child-friendly: older, dog-experienced Second dog?

About Cary

What life with Cary looks like

Cary is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cary, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cary?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cary on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cary if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cary already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cary isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cary and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
