Adopt Charly

Mixed Breed · Male

We met the friendly Charly during our visit in early November. At first, he was a bit cautious and reserved around strangers but would always come up to the fence for treats. Later, he became more open and would let us pet him. In the free run area, he ran from one to another, and we saw a happy, outgoing dog. Charly wandered through a village in Hungary as a stray. The dogcatcher found him, took him to the killing station, and unfortunately, no one came to claim these friendly male dogs. Ancsa saw Charly and took him to her animal shelter. There, Charly shows a very friendly side and seeks the company of people. He gratefully accepts cuddles and enjoys when someone engages with him. The young male dog gets along well with female dogs but not so well with other male dogs. Therefore, an ideal home would be one where he lives either as a single dog or with a female dog. We do not know where Charly came from or what he has experienced in his previous life. His new home should ideally be in a rural area. Many things will be new and some may be scary for Charly. It is good to have confident people by his side who can guide him through these situations. Charly was tested negative for heartworm (macro and microfilariae), Babesiosis, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, and Borreliosis.

About Charly

What life with Charly looks like

Charly is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Fellfreunde e.V. in Solingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fellfreunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fellfreunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fellfreunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
