Charly

Mixed Breed · Male

Charly – a survival artist with a big heart and a mind of his own. Charly is a very special tomcat. He’s about six years old and has already been through a tough time. After surviving a house fire, he was surrendered to us—a fighter shaped by his fate. Yet Charly has survived and is now looking for people who’ll accept him just as he is: independent, strong-willed, and with a unique way of showing affection. Charly isn’t the cuddly type who immediately snuggles into every lap. He decides for himself when and how much closeness he’ll allow. He enjoys petting—but he also makes it very clear when it’s too much for him: he’ll grumble or make it unmistakably clear that he’d rather be left alone. His humans should understand and respect his signals so that a deep, trusting bond can develop. Other cats? No thanks! Charly doesn’t want to share his home with fellow felines. He needs a calm environment with plenty of quiet retreats and people who treat him with patience and understanding. Small children would be too much for him, so there should be no young children—or only older children (from age 15 on—in the household. Charly may not be the easiest cat to get along with, but he’s a truly special creature with an exciting personality. Anyone who gives him time and accepts his quirks will be rewarded with a loyal companion who shows in his own charming way that he values his human. Short & sweet: ✔ Age: approx. 6 years ✔ Personality: independent, sensitive, strong-willed ✔ Special features: survived a fire, needs time and trust ✔ Interaction with people: selective, enjoys petting but clearly indicates when he’s had enough ✔ Other animals: no other cats! ✔ Suitable for: a calm home, experienced cat owners with patience, no small children (at least 15 years old) If you’d like to give an extraordinary cat with a past a future, then get in touch—Charly is waiting for his perfect home.

DE·Show original

About Charly

What life with Charly looks like

Charly is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Stendal in Stendal.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Charly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Charly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Stendal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Charly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Charly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Stendal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Charly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Charly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Stendal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Charly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
