Châtaigne

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

Châtaigne has already crossed paths with our association in 2015, ten years ago. At that time, our association functioned very differently than today... Châtaigne was rescued along with her kittens and kept safe in a cage in a dependency: it's still better than the street! Her kittens were adopted and Châtaigne was spayed so she could no longer have litters, then released under the supervision of volunteer people who fed and watched over her. Unfortunately, the volunteers from that time lost track of her... When a new team of volunteers took over the association, there was no data to find her, and we had been looking for her since 2017, in vain. And it was in the spring of 2024 that she reappeared, hungry and in poor condition... Fortunately, a private individual found her in their garden and had the good sense to take her to a veterinarian. Thanks to her microchip, the association was contacted and was able to take this lovely little cat into safety. Years of wandering in nature have taken their toll, and her health testifies to it: her biological analysis shows failures in her kidneys, thyroid and heart. Therefore, Châtaigne requires an expensive lifelong treatment: daily administration of half a tablet of Amobip and two oral injections of 2.5 ml of Felimazole. Positive news, Châtaigne was tested for FIV/FELV and is negative, which is really a very good news! It would have been ideal to be able to adopt Châtaigne at the first meeting in 2015, but unfortunately this was not possible at the time and we regret it. Today, our means are different and we have had the luck to cross her path again, so we rolled up our sleeves to improve her health, well-being and offer her a foster family. What we want for her is to give her a warm retirement and therefore carefully select a gentle, loving and reassuring home for this cat who has mainly known the street until now and therefore insecurity and lack of care. Châtaigne thrives in the calm of her foster family and a similar home will be sought. Currently, she lives with four feline residents but does not seek interaction with them, being a very independent cat. Quiet, Châtaigne is also very affectionate and appreciates play sessions, petting and...

About Châtaigne

What life with Châtaigne looks like

Châtaigne is a senior mixed breed cat waiting at ADPK - Association Des P in adpk association des p tits korrigans.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Châtaigne, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Châtaigne?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ADPK - Association Des P handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Châtaigne on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Châtaigne if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ADPK - Association Des P will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Châtaigne already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Châtaigne isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ADPK - Association Des P early rather than rehoming privately; they know Châtaigne and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
