Mikeu has lived outdoors her entire life, in an area where cats were numerous and not accustomed to human contact. When we took her in, her tail had just been amputated and had to be surgically removed because it risked causing a serious infection. Now she only has a cute little pompom left. Mikeu has made great progress since her arrival. At first, she was very terrified and spent a lot of time hiding. She gradually learned to enjoy the comfort of a house, cozy places and especially sunny windows, where she spends a lot of time observing the world. She is now very calm, discreet, cautious and routine-oriented. She enjoys her little habits and her moments of play, especially with mice and fishing rods, which she was afraid of at first. What she likes most is the company of other cats. She seeks their proximity and sometimes vocalizes to call them. She can also be particularly expressive when she sees a fellow cat: she squeaks, vocalizes, rolls and rubs against the window to follow its movements. She will therefore need to live with one or more sociable cats that enjoy interactions with their fellow cats. Their presence is also important to help her continue her progress with humans. Because while Mikeu no longer systematically flees the presence of humans, she still does not let herself be touched and does not seek contact. She can stay nearby, sleep on the bed or come to pat on the end of the bed, but a hand that tries to touch her remains a big "no". She knows how to show her discomfort and her limits must be respected. We are starting to consider her adoption, but only in a truly adapted environment. Mikeu will need patient, observant people who are ready to make a real socialization journey with her, without pressure, without delay and without a goal of result. With her, it is not a matter of seeking to provoke contact, but of gradually making everyday situations normal: passing near her, moving, settling down next to her... until these situations become reassuring. It is by respecting her limits and showing her, through experiences, that she can trust humans that the bond can...

Mikeu a vécu dehors toute sa vie, sur un site où les chats étaient nombreux et peu habitués au contact avec l’humain. Lorsque nous l’avons recueillie, sa queue venait d’être sectionnée et a dû être retirée chirurgicalement car elle risquait de provoquer une grave infection. Il ne lui reste aujourd’hui qu’un petit pompon tout mignon. Depuis son arrivée, Mikeu a fait de beaux progrès. Les premiers temps, elle était très terrorisée et passait beaucoup de temps cachée. Elle a progressivement appris à profiter du confort d’une maison, des endroits douillets et surtout des fenêtres ensoleillées, où elle passe beaucoup de temps à observer le monde. Elle est aujourd’hui très calme, discrète, prudente et routinière. Elle apprécie ses petites habitudes ainsi que ses moments de jeu, notamment avec les souris et les cannes à pêche, dont elle avait pourtant peur au début. Ce qu’elle apprécie surtout, c’est la compagnie des autres chats. Elle recherche leur proximité et vocalise parfois pour les appeler. Elle peut d’ailleurs se montrer particulièrement expressive lorsqu’elle aperçoit un congénère : elle glousse, vocalise, se roule et se frotte à la fenêtre pour suivre ses mouvements. Elle aura donc besoin de vivre avec un ou plusieurs chats sociables et appréciant les interactions avec leurs congénères. Leur présence est également importante pour l’aider à poursuivre ses progrès avec les humain•es. Car si Mikeu ne fuit plus systématiquement la présence des humain•es, elle ne se laisse toujours pas toucher et ne recherche pas le contact. Elle peut rester à proximité, dormir sur le lit ou venir pattouner au bout du lit, mais une main qui cherche à la toucher reste un grand « non ». Elle sait montrer son inconfort et ses limites doivent impérativement être respectées. Nous commençons à envisager son adoption, mais uniquement dans un environnement réellement adapté. Mikeu aura besoin de personnes patientes, observatrices et prêtes à faire avec elle un véritable chemin de sociabilisation, sans pression, sans délai et sans objectif de résultat. Avec elle, il ne s’agit pas de chercher à provoquer le contact, mais de banaliser progressivement le quotidien : passer près d’elle, bouger, s’installer à côté… jusqu’à ce que ces situations deviennent rassurantes.
