ChicoChicoChicoChicoChicoChicoChico Back 1of7 Next Breed: German Shepherd Labrador mixed breed Birth year: 11.2023 Color: beige Gender: male Size: medium-large neutered: Yes Chico, the big male dog, already runs well with the group and is rather shy and reserved. He doesn't pull on the leash and is compatible with his fellow animals. Chico has a charming facial expression, and you can almost read his thoughts from his forehead. This handsome boy is waiting for people who won't expect too much from him and will bring some patience. He is not yet a children's playmate, but he is compatible with his fellow animals. Chico is a very special four-legged friend who would go through thick and thin with his trusted people. Okay, there are also situations that stress him out, and you can tell when he puffs up his cheeks or doesn't walk as relaxed on the leash. But most of the time, he does this. And he enjoys being in the forest the most; without much hustle and bustle. Chico is a dog whose face clearly shows what he is thinking. And if he likes you, he even gives kisses. Chico needs time to let you into his heart. But once you have earned that place, you will have him forever. Interested parties must come regularly for a few weeks so that Chico can build a bond. Chico is not a dog that can be taken away at short notice. Chico is super compatible with all fellow animals. He has never reacted to another four-legged friend during walks with us. He might like the calmer types a bit more than the more energetic ones. Chico is waiting for dog-experienced and active people who bring patience. More information about this dog? About Chico

What life with Chico looks like

Chico is a large young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierherberge Egelsbach e.V. in Egelsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierherberge Egelsbach e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierherberge Egelsbach e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierherberge Egelsbach e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
