Chika &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Chika is a loving and friendly grandma dog of 10 years (as of April 2025), who shared her previous life in a remote farmhouse with two Podenco dogs, Canela and Ra. Her larger companions served their handler as hunting dogs, while Chika was always allowed to be a companion on the field tours, though the four-leggeds usually had their own little house on the land. The older man, who at least regularly fed and walked his dogs, could no longer properly care for them in January due to health reasons and decided to entrust the three of them to the care of Arconatura. Now, Chika, together with her two friends, awaits a new home. Chika was able to move to a loving foster family because her mammary tumors were so large that her milk glands had to be removed. Under the care of experienced animal welfare workers, she has recovered well and shows her best side in her newly rediscovered family life. Despite the poor hygiene conditions in her previous home, our sturdy pensioner is a cheerful and open-minded being. Chika is calm and balanced, but still a curious senior who enjoys spending time with her people, finds exciting exploration tours through the neighborhood, and also makes new friends everywhere with her newly groomed appearance, for there is no cuter way to be. We are looking for a understanding home for Chika, where she receives the attention and care she deserves. A cozy autumn of life, as golden as it can be, with cookies and cuddle cushions, walks, and long hours of watching TV. If you are interested in giving this wonderful female dog a new home, please contact us. Chika will surely bring you much joy and love!

DE·Show original

About Chika &#8211

What life with Chika &#8211 looks like

Chika &#8211 is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chika &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chika &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chika &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chika &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chika &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chika &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chika &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
