Chimo

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Chimo is a young Podenco male, celebrating his second birthday in February 2027. Our snowflake with a signal nose is about 47 centimeters tall and has already been neutered. Chimo has been living in the animal shelter of our friends in Linares since August 2026. Young women discovered him on a busy street in the center of Linares. Because the police did not come, the animal friends finally brought their protégé to safety themselves. Chimo is a perfect gentleman: loving, friendly, cheerful and playful, without being dominant. He approaches people openly and with a friendly attitude, and gets along well with other dogs. Toys are also clearly part of the things that make life more interesting. As a Podenco, Chimo brings some breed-specific characteristics that should be considered when choosing his home. Podencos are sensitive, intelligent and active dogs. They take their environment very seriously and often have a strong hunting instinct. Therefore, a well-fitting safety harness, reliable guidance and prudent training are important for Chimo. Free running should only be considered when recall, bonding and terrain are really right. His fine nose works diligently and knows no regular office hours. Chimo is looking for people who enjoy longer walks, calm training and meaningful activities. Friendly consistency helps him more than pressure, because Podencos often react finely to mood and address. Equally important are rest periods. After exercise and new impressions, a Podenco needs a protected retreat where he can relax. A soft, warm resting place is part of the basic equipment for a slim dog with short fur and will probably be accepted without much hesitation. (The basket of a Podenco can never be close enough to the heater, a cuddly blanket should be available on the couch - and even chic sweaters are not only decorative for our funny frostbites.) An active, patient home would be ideal for Chimo, which values his friendly nature and takes his breed-specific needs seriously. An already existing compatible dog can fit well, but is not a prerequisite, as long as Chimo receives sufficient social contacts. What is crucial are time, security, exercise and the willingness to learn together. Chimo brings a lot of that: He is young, social, people-oriented and visibly happy to be in the middle of life. With a reliable reference person, the cheerful shelter inhabitant can become a pleasant companion who enjoys attention and activity - and nothing more than evenings spent together, relaxed and cuddled up (possibly sweetened by delicious cookies). Chimo is not looking for a spectacular program, but a consistent everyday life in which his energy is used meaningfully and regeneration does not fall short after work.

About Chimo

What life with Chimo looks like

Chimo is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chimo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chimo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chimo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chimo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Chimo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chimo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chimo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
