Adopt Chocolate

Podenco · Male · Young · 1 year

Acogidas Malakitas Internacional (A.M.I.) Input 5 December 2025: Chocolate was for a long time alone on the streets, feeding himself with what he found in the trash. People tried to save him, but his fear made it very difficult, and all attempts failed. A neighbor, whose fence was broken, noticed that Chocolate often came into his house and began to gain his trust by leaving food for him and slowly approaching him. Chocolate slept on his porch and often came in and out. He allowed himself to be petted and showed himself as a loving and charming little dog. Chocolate could finally be rescued and was taken to what is now his foster family. Although he was cautious at first, this little male never showed any aggression towards anyone. He is submissive to other dogs and has a very noble character. Despite probably having endured hunger, he is not possessive about food, but you must be careful with the trash, because he will look for it if you are not attentive. Although he is very kind-hearted, he can play pranks that are easy to forgive, such as stealing a shoe he finds old. He has not been tested with cats, but there were cats in the house where he used to sneak in secretly, and he saw them pass by without paying attention to them, so we think he would have no problem living with them. Chocolate has become accustomed to a home environment thanks to his foster family and is completely ready for adoption!

Acogidas Malakitas Internacional (A.M.I.)

About Chocolate

What life with Chocolate looks like

Chocolate is a medium-sized young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chocolate, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chocolate?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chocolate on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chocolate if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chocolate already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chocolate isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chocolate and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
