Chorizo - A Heart on Four Paws Seeks Its Permanent Harbor Chorizo is a gentle Bodeguero gentleman who did not experience much good in his life. We do not know his past, but it has made him a sensitive dog who longs for security and a stable place in life. Chorizo was lucky enough to make the leap to a foster home in Germany, where he is lovingly accompanied and can gradually gain trust. Chorizo is not a dog who immediately jumps into your arms. He needs time, patience, and people who show him that the world is no longer a dangerous place. He wants to do everything right, but his lack of self-confidence sometimes gets in the way. When you have won his heart, he shows his wonderful sides: He loves puzzle games, enjoys the joint food search, and is a great companion on walks. He walks well on a leash, is easily called, and shows no prey drive. Other dogs are not needed for his happiness. For Chorizo, we are looking for a quiet home without small children. Chaos and fast, unpredictable movements unsettle him, and in moments of great overload, he may snap to show that it is too much for him. His people should be ready to take his body language seriously and give him security with calm, structure, and clarity. The issue of housebreaking is still part of his "package": If he has access to the garden and a reliable routine, it works very well. However, being alone for long periods unsettles him, so accidents can happen in the house and further practice is needed. Has Chorizo caught your attention? If yes, then you can already prepare a basket for him. Chorizo is ready to pack his suitcase and move into his future home. Here is Chorizo's video Here is Video 2

About Chorizo

What life with Chorizo looks like

Chorizo is a large senior dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chorizo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chorizo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chorizo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chorizo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chorizo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chorizo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chorizo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
