Adopt Chris

Podenco · Male · Puppy · 3 months

Reserved via the animal shelter, May 2026 animal shelter Tenerife (Sabine): Update April 13, 2026: The little Chris is growing like a weed! And playing is obviously the most beautiful thing for a young pup. Chris has a new video and 13 new photos. Input March 30, 2026: Chris... what a heart thief! He is beautiful with his pink nose and that soft 'Chris look', which simply jumps into your heart. But also in terms of character, he stands out. He is actually very stable and almost "wise" for such a small little thing. This handsome guy is people-oriented and eager and quick! Chris has no traumas or fears, he gets along super well with his brothers and sisters and has a high cuddle factor. Being tickled on his tummy is his number one hobby! Chris was born with us when his mother Kaneeltje was found heavily pregnant. So he is growing safely with his mom and brothers and sisters, is well raised among the dogs but also enjoys the love and attention from people. A perfect start to be able to explore the world further later together with his own human, and perhaps even another dog companion at home! Until then, Kaneeltje and we will enjoy this nice little creature for a while while guiding him to more adventures. As soon as this nice guy has had all his vaccinations, he will be able to join the daily walks and also run freely in our safe enclosed off-leash area with other companions. That will definitely be a success and great fun! For now, he loves their patio where they have both indoor and outdoor space and also a patch of sand where he likes to sniff around and often takes a siesta in the sunshine with the rest. Chris is allowed to travel around mid-May to his golden bed and his own family to continue growing and enjoying, but we wanted to introduce her anyway. Soon more photos and videos because these little ones grow every day! Chris's mother, Kaneeltje, is about 48cm small. We estimate that her little ones will also remain around that height as adults, 50-55cm.

About Chris

What life with Chris looks like

Chris is a small puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
