Christine

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

In March 2023, we managed to save six sows from being slaughtered once again. I, the Christine with the totally touching gaze, was one of the lucky ones. I could be relieved, because nowadays in all large slaughterhouses, the pigs are rendered unconscious with CO2 gas. We are driven into groups into a kind of "gondola," which is then lowered into a pit filled with CO2. With our very sensitive snouts, we immediately detect the gas. Our mucous membranes are moist, so the gas turns into carbonic acid and causes stinging pain. It takes up to 30 seconds until we lose consciousness. During this time, we experience suffocation, trying desperately to escape. The pit is filled with our desperate cries…. Regularly increased amounts of the stress hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline are detected in pork, which the human consumes…. The pigs we have saved can now enjoy their lives here, I live together with Paul 3, a half-wool pig. Would you like to take a sponsorship for me? That would be great. Already with 15 € monthly, this is possible. Now fill out the sponsorship agreement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Christine, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Christine?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Christine on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Christine if I live in another country?: Sometimes. Whether a animal can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Christine already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: What a animal comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. directly what is included and what Christine still needs.
What happens if Christine isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Christine and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
