adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Claudius has found his home! His story: Claudius shows up at his foster home as a laid-back Teddy, who occasionally gets a bit playful. He is curious and happy to receive cuddles when meeting new people. He mostly ignores the dogs at first but is completely relaxed around them. The cats in the foster home don't really interest him. Sometimes he sniffs at them but otherwise leaves them alone. The neighbors' children find him great. He regularly gets some cuddles from them. On the leash, he walks well but prefers a more moderate pace. He has no problems with being left alone. He rides in the car and lies down, but has other preferences, like eating. Currently, an attempt is being made to reduce the wonderful fellow through a diet. Claudius is a laid-back fellow who loves to relax and occasionally run through the garden. Besides eating, cuddling is his greatest passion. Upon arrival, he had a benign lipoma on his leg, which was surgically removed. He sometimes limps slightly on his left front leg, which is due to mild elbow dysplasia. For this, he gets pain medication as needed. For Claudius, we wish for a rural home, preferably with fellow animals, where he can feel comfortable. Who will give this charming senior his last great happiness? Claudius looks forward to your message – maybe he will soon be part of your family. After positive evaluation, he travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated, and has his EU pet passport in his luggage. A big thank you to BR, who gave Claudius a name and thus the chance at a family. Many thanks to Andrea F., who supports Claudius with a monthly sponsorship! As of: 10.11.

Vielen Dank Andrea F.! Du unterstützt Claudius mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft! Stand: 10.11.2025

About Claudius

What life with Claudius looks like

Claudius is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Claudius, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Claudius?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Claudius on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Claudius if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Claudius already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Claudius isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Claudius and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
