Coco

Mixed Breed · Female

Coco is an extraordinary dog who needs people as special as she is herself. In her previous life, she hasn't had much opportunity to experience the world, so she's looking for a home with experienced dog owners who can show her—with patience, calmness, and clear guidance—how wonderful the world can be. Coco isn't used to walking on a leash. New situations quickly make her insecure, and in some dogs, she reacts reactively when on a leash. However, with consistent, loving training and people who can read her body language, Coco will gradually learn to build trust and gain confidence. For Coco, we'd like a home without children, as she needs peace and clear routines. An only-dog arrangement would be ideal, allowing her to fully focus on her trusted humans and avoiding additional stress from other animals. Coco is a dog who doesn't immediately open up to everyone—but if you give her time, understand her, and provide her with stability, you'll have a loyal companion by your side, enriching your days with her unique personality. If you bring experience, patience, and a big heart, Coco could be just the right dog for you.

DE·Show original

About Coco

What life with Coco looks like

Coco is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Landestierschutzverein Steiermark in Graz.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Coco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Coco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Landestierschutzverein Steiermark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Coco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Coco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Landestierschutzverein Steiermark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Coco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Coco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Landestierschutzverein Steiermark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Coco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
