Cora

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Cora was born around 10/2025 and, as of 22.8., stands approximately 45-50 cm tall. Together with her sister Chewie, she was heartlessly abandoned in a narrow cardboard box by the roadside in Bulgaria. Without help, the two young female dogs would have had little chance of survival. Fortunately, they were discovered in time by dedicated animal welfare volunteers and brought to safety. Today, Cora and Chewie live in a private shelter. However, the conditions there are very basic: a fenced property with simple wooden huts offers only limited protection from wind and weather. Especially the hot summers, the cold winters, and the constant commotion mean enormous stress for young dogs. Cora and Chewie urgently need to get out of there! Cora has developed into a cheerful and open-minded young female dog. She approaches people openly, enjoys every loving touch, and meets her surroundings with great curiosity. With her gentle and friendly nature, she quickly wins the hearts of everyone she meets. She gets along very well with other dogs and loves playing, romping, and cuddling together. At the same time, she is affectionate and repeatedly seeks the closeness of her people, with whom she can feel safe and secure. Despite her difficult start, Cora has not lost her trust. She looks forward with hope and waits for people who will show her how beautiful family life can be – with walks, shared adventures, a soft bed, and lots of love. Cora is ready to leave her past behind and finally settle in. She is looking for a home where she will be loved as a full member of the family and may stay forever. Who will give this lovable young dog the chance at a happy life? A foster home could also open the way to her future for Cora. We look forward to your inquiries! She has been veterinary examined, dewormed, deflead, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and tested for Mediterranean diseases including leishmaniasis, and has an EU pet passport and Traces registration. The adoption fee is 595€.

About Cora

What life with Cora looks like

Cora is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierrettung International e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cora, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cora?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierrettung International e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cora on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cora if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierrettung International e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Cora already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cora isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierrettung International e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cora and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
