Porthos

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Porthos was born around 03/2019, stands 47 cm tall, and weighs 15.4 kg. Porthos was rescued together with several other dogs from a public shelter in Portugal and taken in by our partner animal shelter in Portugal. Porthos is a sweet and friendly male dog. He is open-minded, enjoys being close to people, and loves being petted. He is quiet and unobtrusive and gets along very well with other dogs. Given his age and temperament, we believe he has already lived in a home for several years before sadly being abandoned. Walking on a leash is also already going quite well. Who has a spot free for this handsome boy with the pointed ears? We look forward to your inquiry! Porthos has been examined by a veterinarian, dewormed, treated for fleas, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and tested for Mediterranean diseases, including leishmaniasis. He has an EU pet passport and is registered in TRACES. The adoption fee is €595.

About Porthos

What life with Porthos looks like

Porthos is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierrettung International e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Porthos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Porthos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierrettung International e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Porthos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Porthos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierrettung International e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Porthos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Porthos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierrettung International e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Porthos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
