Csernus

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

A handsome Csernus arrived at the shelter on December 4th, 2024. Originally rescued from Ukraine by a German organization and brought to safety in Hungary, his past life is unknown. Since then, Csernus has been waiting for a positive change in his life at the Kecskemét animal shelter. Unfortunately, we cannot alter his past, but his future is very important to us, and we are rooting for Csernus to finally find happiness. Csernus is a friendly, kind senior dog who can be stubborn sometimes, but that's okay at this age and gives him a certain charm. His life has probably not been easy, and he has been waiting in the shelter for far too long. He enjoys spending time with people who give him attention and wants to enjoy it daily. Older dogs usually don't require as much physical activity but appreciate affection even more. Csernus doesn't need full action anymore; he just needs someone to care for him. Senior dogs like Csernus need a lot of love and attention, should be spoiled and cared for. He shouldn't have to face the heat in summer or cold in winter, but feel safe in his family circle. Walking on a leash is fine. He is also willing to learn some more from dog basics if guided lovingly. Csernus gets along well with other dogs but lives alone in a kennel. (As of July 6th, 2026) We urgently seek enthusiastic dog lovers for our charming and brave Csernus who will give him a chance and accept him as he is. Csernus should not live in a kennel but have his own soft bed, plenty of cuddles, take beautiful walks through woods and fields, and simply enjoy life knowing he's loved and cared for, probably for the first time in his life. A wonderful four-legged friend is waiting for his people! Unfortunately, Csernus has some health issues, including a suspected testicular tumor, muscle atrophy in his right hind leg, and further examination of his intestines needed. A castration is planned but requires clarification on several points. An update will follow. Csernus' vaccinations are up to date.

About Csernus

What life with Csernus looks like

Csernus is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Csernus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Csernus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Csernus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Csernus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Csernus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Csernus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Csernus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
