Cywil

Male · Senior · 11 years

Cywil probably had "important tasks" in life before coming to us - guarding. We think he guarded with all his heart, as best as he could, but ... something went wrong and the civilian "broke" his paw, so he "got lost" by accident and ended up in the animal shelter. The paw was operated on, the recovery went smoothly, and Cywil started a new life. This is a dog with a strong and fascinating personality. Building a relationship with him takes time and the ability to respect boundaries. Cywil still guards, after all, that's what he did his whole life. He guards his crate, he also guards the person on a walk, but he is also learning that it is not his task and that outside of guarding, there are many great things to do. You can smell the delicious meal first thing in the morning, be happy to see your favorite volunteer who came to take him for a walk, feel freedom in the forest, fields and get lost in sniffing, experience routine and predictability, and therefore a sense of security. Cywil is only now experiencing how pleasant a relationship with a human can be and that it is the human who is the guide, the source of stability and support. And Cywil doesn't have to "earn" it, he can just have it every day. A dog needs an experienced caregiver, knowledgeable about herding breeds, a home without children and other animals, and most of all respect and love. Would someone like to give it to him?

PL·Show original

Cywil prawdopodobnie miał “ważne zadanie” w życiu, zanim trafił do nas - pilnować. To pies z silną i fascynującą osobowością. Nawiązanie z nim relacji to czas i umiejętność poszanowania granic. Cywil wciąż pilnuje, wszak robił to całe życie. Psiak potrzebuje opiekuna doświadczonego, znającego rasy owczarkowate, domu bez dzieci i innych zwierząt, a najbardziej szacunku i miłości. Ktoś chciałby mu to dać?

About Cywil

What life with Cywil looks like

Cywil is a large senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Recent leg surgery, limited mobility, should not walk long distances

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cywil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cywil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cywil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cywil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cywil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cywil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cywil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
