Adopt Connie

Border Collie · Female · Young · 3 years

Connie has spent all of her life so far living in a small village and walking across fields, so she's not used to the hustle and bustle of towns and cities and may be frightened by lots of traffic and noise. She does like to jump in the car to go on new adventures though and particularly enjoys a run on the beach or exploring in woodland. She's looking for a more rural home where she can rebuild her confidence, get to know her family and enjoy a lifetime of cuddles on the sofa! Connie is a scruffy lovebug who is looking for a family to call her own. She adores company and would like her family to be around as much as possible, so a busy household would suit her. If you chat to her, she visibly relaxes and will come over for a fuss but she's not so keen on being left alone and has shown signs of worry in her previous home, where she has chewed items. Time alone will need to be built up very gradually as she settles in. Connie is keener on the boys and prefers the company of male dogs in her own home. Out and about, she's fine with both males and females but doesn't particularly want to interact - her people are her main focus. Connie could share her home with children aged 11 and over, who understand that she will need time to settle in and gain her confidence so may need a quiet space at first.

About Connie

What life with Connie looks like

Connie is a small young adult border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Connie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Connie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Connie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Connie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Connie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Connie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Connie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
