Adoption requirements Adoption process Request this animal now! Adoption requirements Adoption process Request this dog now! Some stories leave you speechless - and Darius' fate definitely belongs to that. In the icy December, the young male dog was found alone in a woodland area: tied to a tree and left to his fate. But whoever expects a broken dog will be surprised. Because Darius has preserved something very special - his joy of life, his curiosity and his trust in us humans. Currently, the 1-2 year old male dog lives in a foster home in Romania, where he is experiencing for the first time what safety, care and affection feel like. Every day he shows anew what a wonderful dog is inside him. With a shoulder height of about 50 cm and around 20 kg, Darius has a pleasant average size. His striking appearance, however, suggests that he may have some characteristics of a Ciobănesc Românesc de Bucovina - a Romanian herding dog. Although Darius is significantly smaller than these imposing dogs, typical traits such as watchfulness, independence and a certain protective instinct could still be sleeping in him. Therefore, we are looking for a home in a rural area - ideally with a securely fenced garden that he can keep an eye on. A small apartment would not be suitable for him. We are looking for people who appreciate his special mix of sensitivity, sovereignty and youthful temperament and who accompany him lovingly but consistently through life. Because Darius is currently in puberty - and you can tell. Probably, the sign "Closed due to renovation" is hanging more often in his head. What has been learned is occasionally charmingly ignored and replaced with "clay in the ear". Testing limits is simply part of it right now. Therefore, people with humor, patience and clear guidance are especially important, who give him security and lovingly guide him through the hormonal chaos. Apart from that, Darius is an especially friendly, playful and active dog who enjoys shared activities and movement. He loves the company of his humans and has excellent prerequisites to become a loyal companion for life. Darius also shows himself to be very social when dealing with other dogs. He currently lives together with cats without problems and meets them calmly and respectfully. Also, his name could not fit better: "Darius" comes from Old Persian and means roughly "the one who holds onto the good". And exactly that is what this special dog has done. Despite everything that has happened to him, he has kept his good heart. Whoever is ready to invest time, patience and love into this young dog will be rewarded with a loyal friend who will go through thick and thin with his humans. Darius travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and treated against fleas with an EU pet passport to his new home. He is adopted after a positive pre-check and against a fee. Also, a loving foster home would help him take the next step towards a happy life. A heartfelt thanks to Hubert K. - you have not only given Darius his name, but also a piece of identity. Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 15.05.2026

About Darius

What life with Darius looks like

Darius is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Darius, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Darius?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Darius on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Darius if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Darius already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Darius isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Darius and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
