Adopt Dougie

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

May Day Bank Holiday… and we thought we’d spend it relaxing. Don’t be daft, Dougie needed rescuing! Dougie is a charming mixed-breed pup with the sweetest face. He gives the gentlest kisses, loves a cuddle, and is still growing into his long legs and big ears. He’s bound to become a truly handsome, majestic lad as he matures. We worked alongside another rescue to bring Dougie to safety from his previous home. He had been kept outside on a high-rise balcony rather than inside the flat, and when he arrived, he was extremely underweight, he practically inhaled his first proper meal with us. Since then, Dougie has settled beautifully into his foster home, quickly making himself comfortable and part of the family. He currently shares his foster home with several Bulldogs, who are very social and have welcomed him with open paws. Dougie loves playing with them in the garden and enjoys a good game of tug with his toys. He would happily share his forever home with another dog. Like many young pups, he’s a wonderfully silly, goofy lad. Full of energy one moment, then completely conked out in his crate the next. Dougie recently visited the vets for his vaccinations and charmed everyone he met. The staff fell in love with him immediately, praising how sweet and gentle he was. He was completely unfazed by his injections and happily handed out kisses and cuddles all round. While he was a bit noisy on the journey there, all the excitement sent him straight to sleep on the way back. We don’t know Dougie’s exact breeding. We believe he has some Husky in him, but beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess. He is still learning the ins and outs of home life, so he’ll need an adopter who is committed to providing structure, boundaries and guidance to help him grow into a well-behaved adult. Dougie could be suited to a family with children, ideally aged 12 and over. He’s friendly and sociable, but still very much a puppy, so he will show typical puppy behaviours. He hasn’t yet been cat-tested, but this is something we’d be happy to arrange for a prospective adopter.

About Dougie

What life with Dougie looks like

Dougie is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Doggy Dens UK Rescue in United Kingdom.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dougie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dougie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Doggy Dens UK Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dougie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dougie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Doggy Dens UK Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dougie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dougie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Doggy Dens UK Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dougie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
