Maak kennis met Diesel

Dachshund · Male

I am Diesel, a Jack Russell/Poodle mix with a lot of baggage. I'm a sweet and affectionate dog, but also very anxious and uncertain. New people, unexpected situations, and changes are difficult for me. When I don't feel safe, I can bark, growl, snap or bite. That's out of fear, not because I want to be annoying. Slowly I am learning that this is not necessary and it's really getting a lot better. Everything just scares me. And that's understandable after everything I have been through. My biggest challenge is visits to the house. The doorbell and people coming in cause a lot of stress. Outdoors, I'm often more social and make contact with people easier. Once I trust someone, I build a strong bond and am incredibly loyal. I like to seek support from my owner and have a great need for rest, structure and predictability. I take medication daily to help my anxiety. With other dogs it usually goes well, although I find big, loud dogs sometimes exciting. Cats are not a good match and also loud noises, such as thunderstorms, make me very scared. I'm not the right dog for everyone. I need time, understanding and patience, but if you win my trust, you get an incredibly sweet and loyal companion in return.

About Maak kennis met Diesel

What life with Maak kennis met Diesel looks like

Maak kennis met Diesel is a adult dachshund dog waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maak kennis met Diesel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maak kennis met Diesel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maak kennis met Diesel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maak kennis met Diesel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maak kennis met Diesel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maak kennis met Diesel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maak kennis met Diesel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
