Leo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Leo is a young dog just one and a half years old. Despite his young age, he has already experienced quite a lot. In a period of about three months, he has had no less than five different homes. That is an enormous amount of change in a short time and that is why it is extra important for Leo to find a place where he can finally build up rest, stability and trust. Leo is a nice dog to people. He is friendly and can get along well with people. He listens reasonably well and with the right guidance he can grow a lot further in this. Leo especially needs clear, quiet guidance and a master who gives him the time to calm down. Unfortunately, Leo cannot live with other dogs. That is why we are looking for a home for him where he is the only dog. A quiet living environment would also suit him very well, because he can get nervous quickly and benefits from a predictable environment. Leo also finds it exciting in the car. He can get nervous in it and will probably need time and guidance to gain more confidence in this. Leo can already be alone for a while. Because we do not know if there is separation anxiety, it is important that this is built up calmly and that his new master pays close attention to signs of stress when he is left alone. We are looking for a stable and quiet home for Leo where he can finally stay. A master with patience, understanding and the willingness to work with him on trust and self-confidence. ✓ Only 1.5 years old ✓ Listens reasonably ✓ Quiet living environment desired ✓ Can already be alone for a while ✓ Finds car rides exciting ✓ Needs rest, stability and predictability Leo has experienced a lot of changes in a short time. Now he deserves a place where he does not have to search anymore. ❤️🐾 Are you the one who can finally give him that safe, stable basis he is so in need of?

NL·Show original

About Leo

What life with Leo looks like

Leo is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Het Dierenhuis in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Het Dierenhuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Het Dierenhuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Het Dierenhuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
