My name is Nora. As for exactly where I come from and everything I’ve been through, I can’t tell you—so my caregivers can only guess. Still, they do believe that on the one hand, I’ve experienced too much, and on the other hand, not nearly enough. I probably used to live with another dachshund, though I’m not entirely sure. When I was picked up, I was in a bare kennel—with no blanket and no water. Very occasionally, I’d be allowed out for a short while, but since I’m not potty-trained, that didn’t happen very often. I never learned how to be potty-trained, nor did I ever learn to go for walks outside. I was 3.5 kilos overweight, but I’ve since lost those extra pounds. Because I drank so much, I also urinated frequently, so I underwent a medical examination—but the doctors couldn’t find any underlying cause for my frequent urination. Now I drink normal amounts, so my caregivers think I drank so much because I wasn’t used to having water always available. Things are much better now, and I’m able to relieve myself outdoors far more often than indoors. That’s still something we’ll need to work on at my new home, and they’re not ready to promise whether I’ll ever fully master it. I absolutely love other dogs, and I definitely need a “support dog” to help me realize that the world isn’t as scary as I think it is. I’m eight years old and looking for a home without children, because kids are far too busy and unpredictable for me. I’m also looking for people who have experience with dachshunds, who already have at least one other dog, and who are willing to be extremely patient with me, since I’m still learning about the world (all over again). Nora is de naam. Waar ik precies vandaan kom en wat ik allemaal heb meegemaakt kan ik niet vertellen dus daar kunnen mijn verzorgers alleen maar naar raden. Wel zijn ze van mening dat ik aan de ene kant te veel en aan de andere kant te weinig heb meegemaakt. Ik heb vermoedelijk samen gewoond met een andere teckel maar helemaal zeker is dat niet. Toen ik opgehaald werd zat ik in een kale bench, geen kleedje en geen water. Heel soms mocht ik er even uit maar omdat ik niet zindelijk ben, gebeurde dat niet zo vaak. Ik heb nooit geleerd zindelijk te zijn en ook niet om buiten te wandelen. Ik was 3,5 kilo te zwaar maar die kilo’s ben ik inmiddels kwijt. Omdat ik heel erg veel dronk, plaste ik ook heel veel dus ik ben medisch onderzocht maar de dokters kunnen geen reden vinden voor mijn vele plassen. Inmiddels drink ik normale hoeveelheden dus mijn verzorgers denken dat ik zo veel dronk omdat ik niet gewend was altijd water beschikbaar te hebben. Inmiddels gaat het dus veel beter met me en doe ik mijn behoefte veel vaker buiten dan binnen. Dit is nog wel een werkpunt voor in mijn nieuwe huis en of ik het uiteindelijk helemaal door zal krijgen willen ze hier niet beloven. Ik ben dol op andere honden en ik heb zeker een “hulphond” nodig om mij te laten zien dat de wereld niet zo eng is als ik denk. Ik ben acht jaar oud zoek een huis zonder kinderen want die zijn veel te druk en onvoorspelbaar voor mij. Ook zoek ik mensen die ervaring hebben met teckels, waar minimaal één andere hond aanwezig is en die bereid zijn heel veel geduld met mij te hebben omdat ik de wereld (opnieuw) moet leren kennen.
