Dodo - VON PRIVAT

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

♂, born around 2021Patient—gentle—lovingIn Finland—10961 Berlin—Kreuzberg Private placement Dodo—a black Labrador with a big heart (4.5 years old) is looking for his new favorite family in Berlin 🖤 Dodo is no ordinary dog. He grew up on a small, car-free Finnish island—with forests, rocks, the sea, and a life that couldn’t be more perfect for a dog. Every day he’d swim, wander through the woods for hours, and race the wind aboard a wooden boat. Dodo knows freedom—and he loves it. Now, at 4.5 years old, this wonderful black Labrador is searching for a new home in Berlin—a family that can offer him just as much nature and space to run around, and that he’ll enrich with his warm, playful personality just as much as he’s enriched others so far. Why is he being rehomed? For the past few years, Dodo lived with his primary caregiver on the Finnish island. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, this person is no longer able to care for him long-term. The rest of his original family lives in Berlin—in an inner-city apartment that simply isn’t suitable for Dodo. Dodo isn’t a shelter dog or a dog with behavioral issues—he’s a beloved family member for whom we’re now searching for the very best home. What’s Dodo like? Dodo is one of those dogs that just makes you smile. He greets every person like an old friend—on the island, yoga retreats were held all year round with weekly changing guests, and Dodo was always thrilled to see them. Strangers aren’t barked at; instead, they’re joyfully welcomed and immediately won over. He has a special bond with children. He grew up with two boys (now aged 8 and 12) and is patient, gentle, and incredibly loving toward them—even during their wild playtime. He knows basic commands (sit, stay, come, here, hop, paw) and attended German dog school as a young pup. Since he spent years running freely on the island, he’s no longer used to walking on a leash—but with a bit of patience and training, this can certainly be quickly relearned. He’s a smart, eager-to-learn dog. By the way, Dodo loves riding in cars, boats, and hovercrafts, and he has no problem being left alone for short periods. And one more thing we almost forgot: he loves massages. What does Dodo need? Space and nature—preferably a garden, close to forests and lakes.Active people—Dodo loves long walks, swimming, and playing. Patience with leash training—important so that walks on a leash are enjoyable for both of us.Love and reliability—he’s a sensitive dog with strong attachment skills. And one more thing that’s particularly important to us: Dodo’s previous Berlin family—with two boys who adore him—would love to visit occasionally or even watch over him when needed. We’re looking for a new family who’s open to keeping Dodo part of our lives—and us part of his. This isn’t a requirement, but it’s a big wish, especially for our sons (they’re great dog sitters). What we’re hoping for: A family (with or without children) in a green Berlin district (Zehlendorf, Wannsee, Köpenick, Pankow, Frohnau, etc.) with a garden, time for a large, active dog, and a heart ready to truly welcome Dodo.A protection fee will be agreed upon. Dodo was born in Germany, loved the sea on a Finnish island, and adored everyone he met. Now he’s waiting for the next chapter—and we hope it’ll be just as wonderful as everything before. LOCATION: Dodo currently still lives in Finland and will be brought to Germany as soon as we find a suitable family.Contact: Berlin 10961CONTACT: Nancy BirkhölzerEmail: ©2022 by Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V.. ♂, geb. ca. 2021geduldig - sanft - liebevollin Finnland - 10961 Berlin - Kreuzberg Privatvermittlung! Was braucht Dodo? About Dodo - VON PRIVAT

What life with Dodo - VON PRIVAT looks like

Dodo - VON PRIVAT is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dodo - VON PRIVAT, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dodo - VON PRIVAT?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dodo - VON PRIVAT on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dodo - VON PRIVAT if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dodo - VON PRIVAT already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dodo - VON PRIVAT isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dodo - VON PRIVAT and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
