Domnița

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

Seven Souls Lost Among Trash Seven dogs in a sea of garbage. That’s what we found the day we received a desperate call. On the outskirts of a forgotten village, in an improvised dump, someone had thrown away an entire family: an exhausted mother and her six newborn puppies. The sight was heartbreaking: among heaps of trash, the tiny bodies trembled with cold and hunger. The mother, whom we named Domnița (Lady, in English ) , stood guard over them, even though she could barely see. One eye was completely gone, and the other was badly damaged, yet she stubbornly fought to protect her babies. Who knows how many puppies she had tried to save over the years? How many roads she had walked, how many cold, rainy nights she had endured, always trying to be a good mother in a cruel world. But this time, she wasn’t alone. We arrived just in time. And that’s when the miracle began – right there, among the garbage. A Nearly Blind Mother with a Huge Heart At the shelter, Domnița was welcomed with care and gentleness. Our vet examined her and discovered that, although her remaining eye was also affected, surgery could save part of her sight. We did everything possible to bring a little light back into her world, and the operation was a success. Little by little, Domnița began to trust humans again. Gentle touches, good food, and a calm environment helped her relax—probably for the first time in years. Her six puppies – Brioșă, Cocolino, Gălușcă, Titirez, Trusa, and Plușica – were tested, dewormed, vaccinated, and well-fed. They grew stronger every day and gradually gained independence from their mother. One by one, they found loving families. Each adoption felt like a small victory, proof that kindness can triumph even when all seems lost. A Second Chance for Domnița We feared that Domnița might stay at the shelter for a long time. Her age, her past, and her poor vision all seemed like barriers that few adopters could overcome. But life always surprises us. One day, a man named Cătălin came to the shelter. He said he wanted to meet Domnița, and after just a few minutes together, we knew it was her moment. He gently petted her, she recognized his voice, and leaned against his legs, as if she had been waiting for him all along. Today, Domnița lives in a big yard with her new furry brother and a human who truly loves her. She finally has her own place, a family, and the freedom to wander under the open sky. From a garbage pit to a life full of joy – this is how miracles are written at Speranța Shelter. Domnița has been given a new chance thanks to your generosity. Your donations can help us save other innocent lives. Thank you for any contribution!

About Domnița

What life with Domnița looks like

Domnița is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Speranța Shelter Foundation in Romania.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Domnița, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Domnița?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Speranța Shelter Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Domnița on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Domnița if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Speranța Shelter Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Domnița already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Domnița isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Speranța Shelter Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Domnița and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
