Dotty BRIDGEND, SOUTH WALES Adoption fee for Dotty is £350 4 1/2 years old Smooth, chocolate dapple – tweenie (7 ½ kg) Neutered female Dotty is a lovely dachshund who has had a very hard start. We don’t have much information about her early life, but it is likely she was used for breeding and not given the love and attention all dogs deserve. Her family have worked hard with her and, although she is still an anxious little girl, she is now an affectionate, loving little dog who is starting to learn that the world can be a fun and exciting place. Her family are heart-broken at needing to rehome her but are unable to continue giving her the care and attention she deserves. Dotty could potentially live with a friendly dog or two (ideally dachshunds!) following a successful introduction as she was living with other dogs before being rescued. She has a dachshund best friend and gets a lot of confidence from being with him. Her current owners have been working to help her feel safe and secure when left on her own, but this is a work in progress, so we are looking for a home where her new family are able to continue her training (with support from our behaviourists if needed) and where she will not be left on her own for long. Fortunately, Dotty is a food-motivated dog, so the right treats will make all the difference in bonding with her and her training! Like many dachshunds, Dotty has a big bark and can be vocal around strangers and unfamiliar visitors, but she will settle and accept new people if ignored. She is scared of unexpected noises so her new family will need to be patient and understand that she will settle as she gets used to new surroundings. Once she gets to know people, she is gentle and loving and loves to snuggle under a blanket on the sofa. She can occasionally growl when she has high-value treats, so new owners will need to supervise her around these, particularly with other dogs. Walks outside the home are still a new experience for her and something she has still to learn to love. She is walked on the lead and will avoid strange dogs. Her family use a crate as a safe space for her to go to when she chooses and she sleeps in bed with them at night. Dotty is in good health but can get itchy, dry skin which is currently managed with hypo-allergenic food. She gets very scared and does not travel well in the car, so will be happier in a family where walks are easily accessed nearby. Requirements in a home for Dotty Could live with a friendly dog or two, subject to a successful meet A home where someone is around most of the time No children No cats Someone prepared to travel to Bridgend to meet her To find out more about Dotty please email
