Dumbo

Giant Schnauzer · Male

Breed: Riesenschnauzer x Boxer x Cane Corso x large Swiss Mountain Dog previously difficult, currently being worked on. Is compatible with other animals? Can be alone for some hours. Dumbo is a strong, approximately 3-year-old male dog/neutered—a mix of Riesenschnauzer, Boxer, Cane Corso, and large Swiss Mountain Dog. Unfortunately, he lost his home after 2.5 years—due to a bite incident with an impaired child in the family. The trigger for the bite incident was a resource problem. Resources are only one of several building blocks—territorial aggression also belongs to his behavior. However, this incident was not an isolated case: previously, there were problems with other dogs. Here at the shelter, we have started first controlled cohabitants with various dogs—so far uncomplicated, which may be due to the fact that Dumbo does not yet have territorial claims on our accommodation. Because territorial behavior is one of his main topics. On the family farm, he only tolerated strangers with great difficulty or not at all. His main task was to guard—something he took very seriously. That's why we are now starting with him from the very beginning: the small dog ABC, getting to know new situations, building trust. Dumbo needs a home without children and without other animals. He is not for beginner dog owners—sought are human-friendly, structured, experienced people who are willing to take responsibility and are ready to go with him on his journey. As Dumbo is currently a pension dog at our shelter, there are ongoing costs that the family can only cover to a limited extent. A quick Dumbo must not become a wandering cup. Even though the time pressure is noticeable, it is clear for us: an impetuous or unconsidered placement is not in his best interest. What he needs is a high-quality place where he can arrive, where he gets the necessary guidance and security—and can stay for the rest of his life. If you think you could be this person for Dumbo—contact us. And please share this post so that Dumbo gets a real chance. Every day counts. Contact:

Rasse: Riesenschnauzer x Boxer x Cane Corso x gr. Kontakt:

About Dumbo

What life with Dumbo looks like

Dumbo is a large adult giant schnauzer animal waiting at Tierschutz Celle in Celle.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Dumbo far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dumbo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dumbo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Celle handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dumbo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dumbo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Celle will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dumbo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dumbo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Celle early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dumbo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
