Adopt Dunaj

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 7 years

You know what makes a dog in an animal shelter - like Dunaj - invisible? A magic cloak? To put it on, you need three spells, which are - BLACK, BIG, MALE. That's it. Irrelevant character, temperament, spark in the eye, smile on the muzzle. Are you a black big dog and additionally not the youngest, but also energetic? He's yours. If you're still reading, maybe you can sense magic and see Dunaj? I prefer other words that describe him better - ADULT, WISE, CURIOUS ABOUT LIFE. He is in a beautiful age, already mature (6-7 years old), but still has great curiosity about the world and life energy. He is black, and you know - black is best! Gray hair on his muzzle adds to his seriousness, but the spark in his eye reveals joy of life. He is brave in the city and in the field - it's easy to explore the surrounding forests with him, he probably feels at home between the blocks, the noise of the street doesn't affect him. Life wisdom and years of experience make him a really courageous dog, open to new things. He is nice and cheerful - the first impression may blur this image a bit because he only wants to get out of the animal shelter, but if you get to know him better, you'll have time to recover and spend more than 20 minutes with him - then it will be easy to fall in love with his positive life energy. Dunaj is not only the name of a river, but also an absolute lover of all water - after all, he is a descendant of the Labrador dynasty, so every water source is potential for fun. If you like trips, car excursions (best to a lake) Dunaj will be the ideal companion. He will jump elegantly into the trunk and politely wait until you reach your destination. And what about our handsome guy in contact with people? Not forward, that's a good word. Environment is always first - but if you have only one walk a week, it's hard to expect otherwise. He allows being touched, petted, scratched behind the ear, takes treats politely. But. But he has his limits and is also confident, so you need to be watchful. He doesn't fear people any more than the world, so it's good to work a bit on establishing the relationship, because it's easy for him to become the leader of his new team. Contact with children - always under adult supervision - is just a dog from the animal shelter, we must always be fully responsible for this relationship. There is some work ahead, but he will be easy to handle, quickly grasps human expectations, he just needs someone who clearly teaches him the rules and allows him to be just a dog. Dunaj can live in an apartment in a block if there is an elevator or low floor, he also finds his way well in a house with a garden, if you provide walks, exploration is the biggest need not only for Dunaj. Help remove his charm - he has been waiting for a chance for two years. Two very long years. I encourage you to meet the guy in person - he is waiting for you in the animal shelter in Choszczno.

I koniec. Nieważny charakter, temperament, iskra w oku, uśmiech na pycholu. Jesteś czarnym dużym psem i w dodatku nie najmłodszym, a jeszcze energicznym? Po tobie. Jeżeli jednak dalej czytasz to może akurat umiesz odczyniać uroki i zobaczysz Dunaja? Ja wolę inne słowa, które lepiej go opisują - DOROSŁY, MĄDRY, CIEKAWY ŻYCIA. Wskoczy elegancko do bagażnika i grzecznie poczeka aż dojedziecie do celu. A jaki jest ten nasz przystojniak w kontakcie z człowiekiem? Nienachalny, to dobre słowo. Chętnie udzielę też wszelkich informacji i podwiozę jeśli trzeba ze Szczecina, jestem do dyspozycji - piszcie, dzwońcie - wolontariuszka Karolina - tel/WhatsApp 501051386 KONTAKT W SPRAWIE PSA KAROLINA 501051386 , LUB BIURO 513 135 375

About Dunaj

What life with Dunaj looks like

Dunaj is a medium-sized adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Schronisko Choszczno in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dunaj, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dunaj?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Choszczno handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dunaj on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dunaj if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Choszczno will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dunaj already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dunaj isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Choszczno early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dunaj and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
