Duque

Male · Senior · 13 years

Duque – seeks a home for his golden years Duque was surrendered to an animal shelter in Spain at the end of 2024 and moved to a foster home in Germany in February, where he lives with other dogs, which is not ideal for him as he wishes to receive all the love of his life in his old age. Duque is a wonderful, sensitive, and affectionate dog. He is a great companion who delights in any affection shown to him. For Duque, we are looking for a quiet home with an enclosed garden. He is still mobile for his age and can walk on a leash. However, during walks, Duque is very restless and easily stressed, and other dogs often overwhelm him. Generally, he quickly becomes afraid with higher noise levels or rapid movements. This is all due to his past, as he likely didn’t get to experience much in his long life in Spain and was not well-treated. In a reliably structured and familiar environment, he now relaxes well and can move in the garden alone without the other dogs. Duque should be allowed to live as a single dog. He can still climb stairs, but it is becoming increasingly difficult for him. Duque is a dog who forms a strong bond with his "primary caregiver." This means he always wants to be where his human is. Now, he can stay lying down for longer periods and doesn’t constantly follow his beloved human. He can be left alone for a short time. Duque rides in the car and patiently waits for his human to return. Age-related physical weaknesses in his movement apparatus are naturally present, and a beginning heart valve degeneration has been diagnosed. We are looking for people with a lot of empathy, patience, and a safe, relaxed environment for his golden years. People who can simply make the last phase of a dog’s life beautiful without expecting anything in return. Those who can offer Duque this will find a loyal, attached, and affectionate four-legged friend in him.

About Duque

What life with Duque looks like

Duque is a senior dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Duque, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Duque?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Duque on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Duque if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Duque already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Duque isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Duque and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
