Dżerba

Female · Young · 1 year

We won't sugarcoat it - Dżerba is not doing well. She is a very young female dog, completely terrified by the situation she is in. The fact that she only dares to eat at night when all the other dogs in the pavilion are asleep and no one is walking around shows how hard it is for her to adjust here. Dżerba is very afraid of people - she freezes or tries to crawl into the deepest corner when touched. She is completely submissive and gentle, but her fear simply paralyzes her. Perhaps this is her first close contact with a human, but she might have previously been in a place where people treated her badly or witnessed animal abuse, which caused her fears. Despite everything, we will fight for this poor dog and her future - above all, we would like her to leave the animal shelter as soon as possible and continue her adaptation in her own home. Dżerba does not walk on a leash, she is very stressed, but communicates perfectly with other dogs, so for now, she would be best off in a house with a securely fenced yard and people who have experience caring for different dogs, are patient and ready for a long process of adapting the dog to a new environment. Another stable and understanding dog would be a great support for Dżerba. Learn more here: [facebook]() [instagram]() [tiktok]() [youtube]()

About Dżerba

What life with Dżerba looks like

Dżerba is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Extremely fearful and traumatized, requires patient rehabilitation, secure fenced yard essential

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dżerba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dżerba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dżerba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dżerba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dżerba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dżerba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dżerba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
