Adopt Piter

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Piter (P-6742/26), a dog born in March 2012, arrived at our shelter on March 22, 2026, from Wiązakowa Street. Piter is a medium-sized dog (reaches to mid-thigh), in a foxy terrier type, with medium-length fur. His coat is tricolor. Due to his age, his little muzzle is speckled with gray. He is very friendly towards people and, upon closer acquaintance, seeks a close contact with a human. He is very gentle. He is an older dog. He needs a quiet home and responsible guardians. His guardians should be aware of the limitations and needs associated with his age, as well as any potential additional expenses. He requires senior-appropriate food, health monitoring, and short, calm walks. He has no issues with being on a leash or being led out. During walks, in public areas, he adjusts to the caregiver's pace and does not pull on the leash. On open terrain—like a meadow, park, forest, etc.—he is held on a long leash, engages in "dog business"—quietly explores the space and sniffs. One cannot help but love Piter. Although he does not greet a familiar person with enthusiasm by jumping on them, he is sociable—seeks contact with a human and mingles. His silver muzzle, light brown paws, and black "hat"—Piter is elegant and dapper, a perfect companion for an older gentleman (both will be setting the standard for well-groomed ladies of a certain age) or as a charming companion for an older lady, of which she will always be proud, as he is of her. Caring for Piter will result in his unconditional love for the caregiver. The dog will become an inspiration for a fulfilling life, providing emotional support and a sense of being needed. The benefits also include health advantages—more movement, forming new friendships, reduced risk of loneliness and heart disease. He will be neutered soon and fully ready for adoption. *This description was created based on observations of the dog's behavior at the animal shelter. It should be noted that the dog's behavior may change after adoption.

Piter (P-6742/26), pies ur. w marcu 2012r., trafił do Schroniska dn.22.03.2026r. z ul. Wiatrakowej Piesek średniej wielkości (sięga do połowy łydki), w typie foksteriera, sierść półdługa. Umaszczenie Tricolor. Potrzebuje spokojnego domu i odpowiedzialnych przewodników. Jego opiekunowie powinni być świadomi ograniczeń i potrzeb związanych z jego wiekiem oraz ewentualnych dodatkowych wydatków. Wymaga odpowiedniej do wieku senioralnego karmy, kontroli zdrowia i krótkich, spokojnych spacerów. Bonusem będą też korzyści zdrowotne- więcej ruchu, zawieranie nowych przyjaźni, mniejsze ryzyko samotności i chorób serca. Wkrótce będzie wykastrowany i w pełni gotowy do adopcji. *Powyższy opis został stworzony na podstawie obserwacji zachowania psa w schronisku. Należy mieć świadomość, że po adopcji zachowanie psa może ulec zmianie.

About Piter

What life with Piter looks like

Piter is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Bialystok in Białystok.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Piter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Piter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Bialystok handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Piter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Piter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Bialystok will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Piter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Piter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Bialystok early rather than rehoming privately; they know Piter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
