Eddie

Cocker Spaniel · Male · Senior · 11 years

I am a very sweet boy and am looking for a specific home with experienced owner. I am a very sweet and loving boy and I enjoy my cuddles or bringing you a soft toy. My life has not always been easy, and due to my past and my poor health making me feel so vulnerable I have sometimes not made the best choices. My carers know what a loving boy I am, and want to find me my forever home with someone to love me for who I am, as well as respecting the boundaries I have.I was returned October 2022 to the sanctuary after being adopted a few years before. My adopters really loved me but struggled to cope with my behaviour in the home, which my carers believe was caused by the pain I was in from my poorly ears. When I came back to the sanctuary my carers worked hard to try and help my ears but in the end I needed surgery to relieve me from the pain it was causing me. Since then, my ears have been doing much better and with that my behaviour improved as I’m not in pain anymore.Last year I was adopted and I was in a home but it wasn’t meant to be and I had to come back after just over a week. My carers think I just felt vulnerable again being in a new home with many changes. I need a lot of understanding & care so I don’t need to feel so vulnerable. I need you to look after me, and make sure I’m not being put in situations I find conflicting or worrying.Thankfully I really love being here at the Sanctuary and I have a place here for as long as I need and I know they will always be there to support me. I need an adult only home as an only pet especially while still getting used to my new home and people. I would not be able to be around any visiting children at all, due to my history and behaviours. I have bitten before and without effective management and care I could bite again. I love cuddles and fuss so would need someone who can spend a lot time with me and giving me attention but on my own terms. I’d love nothing more than chilling next to you and having some belly rubs while holding a fluffy soft teddy in my mouth. I’m relatively low maintenance really! But I also value my me time and need someone who will respect my space. When out on walks I do enjoy the company of other chilled dogs that will do their own thing and leave me alone to sniff and walk, like my friend Mango at the Sanctuary (who pretty much completely ignores me). I can snap and tell off dogs that are in my space or trying to play with me as I don’t appreciate energetic or pushy dogs in my space. I’m really not a fan of traveling so I’d want a home where we walk most places together instead of car journeys. My carers are working with me to improve this and I jump in and out of a car quite happily but I hate being in there for too long or while its moving and will dig and chew when I get too stressed.

About Eddie

What life with Eddie looks like

Eddie is a senior cocker spaniel dog waiting at Wythall Animal Sanctuary in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eddie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eddie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wythall Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eddie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eddie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wythall Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eddie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eddie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wythall Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eddie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
