Crumpet

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Hi I’m Crumpet! You may recognise me as I was returned to the Sanctuary after being adopted due to a change in my behaviour. I have been off the website for a little bit while my carers did some more training with me, but I am back and ready to find my forever home! <3My previous adopter said I did really well in the home and for the most part was a really good boy! I gave everyone lots of love and enjoyed being in a home (especially with a comfy bed to chill on!). Unfortunately, after an sudden incident in the home, I had to come back to the Sanctuary. It is not clear why, but one night I suddenly became reactive to one of the people in the home and I was stressed and restless. My adopters handled the situation well but both they and the Sanctuary felt it was best for me to come back and be re-assessed as this behaviour was very out of character for me. I originally came to the Sanctuary as a stray so there is no know history on me before I came to the Sanctuary but I am a sweet, loving and very loyal boy who just wants lots of love (and lots of toys!) I’m looking for a large dog breed experienced home who can continue my training. My carers cannot say enough what a sweet a loving boy I am! I do need an adult only home with people that understand and have researched my breed and know how to handle large dogs like me. I must always be walked on lead and muzzled in public spaces and follow the training my carer will show you but I really am just a sweetheart I just find somethings overwheleming. Luckily I am a super sweet boy so I don’t mind at all being on a lead and I’m just happy to be out on a adventure!!I can find lots of activity around disruptive and I can struggle to rest and feel secure so I really need a home in a rural or quiet area with a secure garden or secure outdoor space that I could sunbathe and spend time with you in. Somewhere where there isn’t too much going on around my home so I can chill out and snooze the day away (after my walks and play time of course! :)I absolutely love my toys, treats and my people and I really love other dogs too!! My adopter said I got on with every dog I met. Here at the Sanctuary I only have a few dog friends as a lot of the dogs here don’t always like other dogs, especially big dogs like me. Luckily some of the staff and volunteers bring their dogs in for me so I still get to play and hang out with other dogs!! My carers think I’d be happy home by myself or with another friendly dog in that I can play with and just hang out with as I love the company. Due to my size I do need medium - larger friends as I am such a big boy I can accidentally squish smaller dogs (like my friend little Mouse in the photo, luckily she would just run through my legs or tell me off if I got too much). But I could also happily live by myself with my people, and have dog friends on walks instead.I would prefer a home with few to no visitors coming into the home as I value my home as my safe space. If there are visitors I might prefer to be in a separate quiet area of the house with a tasty chew or kong to keep me busy. I have always been fine around visitors in my last home but my carers feel that even though I am super loving and friendly to everyone, having people come into my safe space might cause me some stress that is hard to notice. Since coming back to the Sanctuary my carer has been doing lots of training with me and I have been loving it! I really want to please my people (especially if there are tasty snacks or a squeaky toy involved). I’m doing really well at walking on a loose leash and I’ve been doing some muzzle training as wearing a muzzle can be really helpful and I will need to wear one when I am out on walks.I really need someone who would be willing to continue the training my carer does with me and implement training my carer will discuss with them in the home that will really help me feel safe and secure. Since coming back the the Sanctuary I have had a few ups and downs, the stress of being in kennels made me more reactive through barriers but I am getting better with this and will fall asleep as people read to me from outside my kennel.Although I get on well with everyone I meet, I need to build strong relationships with people before they do things like spend time with me by themselves or do training etc with me. I am a sensitive soul with a chunky cute head and I just need consistent love, kindness and patience to feel secure with you. To begin with I can be quite aloof with people but when I feel safe with someone I am the most loving goofball you will ever have the pleasure of meeting <3 I try really hard but sometimes my excitement takes control and I can get a bit strong or run into you, so a strong handler is a must!I thrive on being told what a good boy I am! I just love to please so it doesn’t take me long at all to pick up new things! I want nothing more than to be in the company of my favourite people somewhere peaceful (and maybe some fun play time with a dog friend too)Anyone wanting to adopt me must be willing to follow my training plan, keep me on lead and muzzled in public spaces.

About Crumpet

What life with Crumpet looks like

Crumpet is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Wythall Animal Sanctuary in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Crumpet, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Crumpet?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wythall Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Crumpet on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Crumpet if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wythall Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Crumpet already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Crumpet isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wythall Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Crumpet and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
