Reggie

Labrador Retriever · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

I have lots of energy and love going on adventures!! Once I make friends with you I am a Lovebug but I do need a experienced owner I came into the sanctuary when my owners left me with a nice family that looked after me while they were on holiday, but sadly my owners never came back for me…I have been rehomed a few times since I cam to the Sanctuary but have been returned every time for different reasons. Therefore my next home must be the perfect one so I don’t have to worry about being left again.I form really strong loving relationships with the people I make friends with but because I have had a few homes now I can struggle making friends intially as I am frustrated and don’t trust you until you take the time to show me that I can. My carers say for someone willing to take the chance on me I would be their once in a lifetime dogs as I’m such an intelligent, sweet and funny boy! I need a Adult only home where I could really connect with my new adopter so there needs to be only 1-2 people in the home day-to-day. I do have some insecure beahviours when there are multiple people so living in a home with multiple people about or regular visitors has not proved best for me. Once you are my friend and I feel safe with you I am one of the most loving dogs and just love having a cuddle with you! I can be quite sensitive to how you are feeling as I love my people so much I listen in to every tiny cue you show. Sometimes because I am so intelligent and sensitive I can get a bit overstimulated and silly when I get excited. My carers say I have gotten much better but I still can mouth & jump up quite a bit when I feel like this but I am quickly distracted with snacks and I am continuing to improve. Becasue of this I do need to be muzzled when out in public as picking up on everything going on can be a bit overwhelming at times and I can find strangers really worrying, so I need an owner who would be willing to muzzle me and follow training & management shown to them by my carers to help me.I need regular twice daily excercise minimum (walks where I can sniff away are my favourite!!) My carers have done lots of work with me over the years as at one point I got quickly overstimulated when out and about, now I am doing so much better but I still can get overstimulated and need to wear my muzzle whenever I am on a walk. I sometimes prefer going out at quieter walking times so it is not too stressful for me but my carers have taken me out while it has been busier and as long as I am given space and my handler is listening to me, I now manage quite well! I really love going on adventures and trips out and just being with my favourite people! In the home I would not be able to be around any visiting children at all, due to my history and behaviours. I have bitten before over food, and handling that worried me, and without effective management and consistency I could potentially bite again. While I say a happy hello to some dogs out on walks, unfortunately I could not live with one as my resource guarding has proved too much in previous homes. I could not yet live with cats or small animals however potentially in the future, if a lot of work has been done with my behaviour, a feline friend may be okay. I love the cats here at the sanctuary, and have been very well mannered with them. I have also lived with a cat previously.I don’t mind being left and often will just sleep, so after my walk and with some toys/ enrichment to keep me busy I could be left up to 4 hours a day.

About Reggie

What life with Reggie looks like

Reggie is a very small adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Wythall Animal Sanctuary in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Reggie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Reggie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Wythall Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Reggie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Reggie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Wythall Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Reggie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Reggie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Wythall Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Reggie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
