I came to the Sanctuary after I was found as a stray locally. I was initially very upset coming here and found it really hard being in a kennel which meant I wasn’t very friendly to my carer at first but only because I was so scared!After my carers spent lots of time over a few weeks sitting with me and building my trust I finally came round and realised my carers are actually great!! I now jump all over them and demand attention 24/7!!! Although I can still be a bit wary of new people at times, as long as one of my trusted humans are with me it doesnt take me long to make new friends at all now! (Especially if they give me bum and tummy rubs!) I would really love a home with someone who will give me lots of love, attention and play time!!!! I really love my humans and spending time with you on walks, playing or having cuddles (although I might tackle you and beat you up to get one!) As my carers don’t know much about my history it is hard to know how I will be in my new home but I think to start I would like someone around most of the day. Recently I have become quite clingy to my primary carers, probably because they were the first people I learnt to trust. I am finding it hard somedays to be with other people if I know my carers are about so my carer thinks I might struggle at times I’d be left in the home more than they originally thought. Once I have settled into the home, and training is put in place preapring me, I think I could be ok being left 1-3 hours on my own if I have been exercised and have something to play with (I do like to chew and chomp, so lots of dog safe toys are a must!!)I still get a bit worried at new people but I am ok saying ‘Hi’ when Im out and about if my hoomans tell them how to greet me, I think I’d prefer a home where there are not too many visitors or other people around so I don’t feel worried all the time. Although I can now be ok with new people when out and about, it takes me some time to really build a relationship and trust them before I will let them do things like put my harness on etcMy carers will tell you I absolutley love being the centre of attention so I would need to be the only pet in the home or else I could get a bit jealous and grumpily push the other animals out. Luckily I do seem to like most dogs through the fences/ on lead although none of the dogs here at the Sanctuary like me very much so I have only been out with one of the staff members dog. I had zero manners at introducing myself to him and jumped straight at him, luckily he’s very chilled and paid me no notice! My carer kept me on a long lead as she said I was bullying him too much at times (typical bulldog!) but I was just trying to get him to play with me…. honest….. ok I may have got a bit silly and tried to grab his ears a couple of times as I was super excited. Thankfully he really was very tolerant of me and just igorned my silly behaviour but another dog definetly would have snapped at my pushy nature!I absolutley LOVE my paddling pool!! I splash and roll around so much my carer jokes she should have called me Hippo instead!! Being a bulldog with a flat face I can struggle in the heat so my supervised time in my paddling pool helps keep me cool and prevent heatstroke! (Although I wont go anywhere near it if the hose is still on, that water snake is scary!!) I have made lots of progress considering how fearful I was coming into a kennel environment. My carers are amazed how quickly I flourished once I realised they weren’t all that scary, now I am able to say Hi to everyone when Im on my walks and get some love after a brief introduction (I dont like head rubs, bum and belly rubs only thanks! )In the future, if I do find situations scary, I need my new human to make sure I feel safe. I need understanding handler who will advocate for me and ensure other people give me my space when needed! I’m such a excitable girl I can jump up quite a lot at people and I do pull on my lead, I’m not too strong but I can get a bit pully especially if I need the loo, I will pull you to the perfect toilet spot so I can go! My carer has been trying to work with me to keep my paws on the floor and walk nicer on the lead but I am stuggling a bit as I am in kennels it is all just so exciting when I get out and I’m with people that sometimes I just can help myself from jumping at them for attention!! I can be quite full on, I have lots of energy and love to keep busy but I do eventually flop once I have worn myself out but typically I am on the go and bursting your personal space bubble! I probably find it harder to settle down here at the Sanctuary as there are always so many noises, smells and things happening that I want to be involved in. My fosterers would need to help me settle in the home so I can learn how to calm down and have a snooze even when other things are going on in the home. It may take some time so please be patient with me, I just love to be in the mix I can find it a bit tricky to wind down and going to a new home will be so exciting!!! My carer says I am doing brilliantly at meeting new people now when I feel safe out on walks with my trusted handlers but I still really dont like other people coming into my safe space (like my kennel) until I’ve really learned to trust you. This is just because they were the first people I trusted after being so scared so it will take several meets before I feel as safe with new people but I promise I will love you (and smother you with kisses when I do!!)
