Edith

Greyhound · Female · Young · 3 years

Edith is looking for a loving family who can give her plenty of affection, fun and opportunities to be her happy, energetic self. She can live with children of older primary-school age but, due to her breed traits and prey drive, she cannot live with cats or small furies. One of Edith’s must-haves is a secure outside area with reasonably high fencing, giving her a safe space where she can enjoy a free run and show off her famous zoomies! Her new family should be ready for lots of walks, sniffing adventures, enrichment and, most importantly, lots of love and fuss for this lovely girl. If you’re looking for a friendly, confident and fun-loving companion with plenty of affection to give, Edith could be the perfect match for you. Edith is a gorgeous 3-year-and-5-month-old girl who is full of personality and ready to find her forever home. She is confident meeting new people and is super friendly with everyone she meets. Edith loves exploring new places, enjoys having a good sniff around and, of course, absolutely loves a good run! She is confident and friendly when meeting other dogs and could happily live with another greyhound. With her medium energy levels, Edith enjoys getting out and about, having plenty of opportunities to stretch her legs, and taking part in enrichment games that get her thinking and using her amazing nose. She can be left for small amounts of time, with this being built up gradually as she settles into her new home.

About Edith

What life with Edith looks like

Edith is a small young adult greyhound dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Edith, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Edith?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Edith on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Edith if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Edith already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Edith isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Edith and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
