Fozzie

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Adult · 4 years

Fozzie is looking for a calm, patient family who can commit to visiting him at the centre multiple times before taking him home and who understands that building a trusting relationship may take time. His new family must be prepared to take things slowly and participate in home trials, allowing Fozzie to gradually settle into his new surroundings and home at his own pace. Due to his fearful side, Fozzie cannot live with children under 16 and he cannot live with cats or other small furries. He can live happily alongside other dogs, and having a calm canine companion would be ideal for him. If you are willing to give Fozzie the patience, consistency and understanding he needs, you could be the family to help this lovely boy become a happy and confident companion. Fozzie is a lovely 2-year-old boy who is looking for a patient and understanding family who can help him grow in confidence. He can be friendly when meeting people on his own terms, but he can be a little more fearful when approached by unfamiliar people, so he needs someone who will allow him the time and space he needs to feel comfortable. Fozzie is confident when meeting other dogs and would ideally like to be rehomed with another calm, confident dog who can help him feel secure when experiencing new situations and meeting new people. He absolutely loves free-running and enjoys going out on walks with other dogs. Fozzie has medium energy levels and can be left for short periods, with this being built up gradually as he settles.

About Fozzie

What life with Fozzie looks like

Fozzie is a small adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fozzie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fozzie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fozzie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fozzie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fozzie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fozzie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fozzie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
