Edith

Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten · 6 months

Edith is looking for an adult-only home and will require outdoor access. Edith is a very nervous and worried little lady who is currently feeling overwhelmed by the shelter environment. Sadly, she is struggling to let her guard down at the moment and isn’t yet comfortable with our staff. She spends most of her time hiding away in her safe spaces where she feels the most comfortable. She has begun to make small progress, however, and will now eat treats whilst our staff are spending some one-on-one time with her in her pen. She remains a very shy and wary girl, though, who is still learning to trust her humans. Edith desperately needs a calm, quiet and experienced home who can offer her the time, patience and understanding she needs whilst she learns to build her confidence and trust her new family. We have very limited background information on Edith’s life prior to her arrival here at the shelter, but we do know she hasn’t had the greatest of starts to her young life. She needs a family who are able to help her be brave and discover that the world isn’t such a scary place – a family who can continue the socialisation she has missed out on in her early life. Edith will take time to settle into her new home and will require a family who are committed to helping her become the happiest version of herself, no matter how long it takes for her to realise she is safe, loved and can let her guard down. Although her journey may take a little while, we have no doubt she will make an incredibly rewarding companion for her forever family as they watch her come out of her shell and begin living her best life as she deserves.

About Edith

What life with Edith looks like

Edith is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Edith, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Edith?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Edith on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Edith if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Edith already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Edith isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Edith and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
