Elara

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Elara is one of those dogs that makes you look twice - and smile the second time. With her extraordinary appearance and her own unique charm, she is a real eye-catcher. She looks like nature had a particularly good mood when she was put together and decided to make a unique masterpiece from several successful ideas. Behind this special facade is a young female dog, about one and a half years old, approximately 60 centimeters tall, who, despite her age, acts very gently and affectionately with a lot of glitter clay in her head. Elara greets people and other dogs friendly and shows exemplary behavior in the animal shelter. She is affectionate, pleasant to deal with and seems balanced. Nevertheless, she is no decorative sofa cushion in large format. As a probable shepherd dog mix, she probably brings with her the characteristics that are often found in herding dogs: attention, eagerness to learn, sensitivity, willingness to work and the desire to keep an eye on her environment. Such dogs benefit from clear rules, reliable reference persons and a meaningful mix of movement, mental work and rest. Endless entertainment is just as unhelpful as a daily routine without occupation. Guardian dog genes can also not be ruled out in Elara. This does not automatically mean that she will later want to manage the house, garden and neighborhood on her own. However, a certain vigilance, independent decisions, territorial behavior or reserve towards strangers are possible. Her future people should take such facilities seriously without dramatizing them. Patient leadership, positive education, good social contacts and a fair, consistent framework create the best conditions for Elara to be able to orient herself safely. Experience with large, watchful or independent-minded dogs would be an advantage. With a shoulder height of around 60 centimeters, Elara is a stately female dog. Whoever adopts her takes on responsibility that goes beyond food and walks. A large dog needs enough space, safe transport options, physically suitable care, solid leash handling and, of course, firm control. Elara currently lives in the animal shelter of our friends in Linares. She was found in August 2026, after a family discovered her alone on a street near the city and brought her to safety. Now this unique finds a home that not only admires her original appearance, but also respects her personality. People with a sense of humor, a sense of responsibility and a joy in learning together with a young dog are sought. A quiet, structured environment, understandable boundaries and enough time to arrive would be ideal. Whoever appreciates Elara's stately appearance and her gentle nature will certainly find in her a faithful companion who inspires her people anew every day.

DE·Show original

About Elara

What life with Elara looks like

Elara is a large puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Elara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
