adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Elijah is a particularly handsome and friendly young male dog. With his shoulder height of about 65 cm and a weight of 20 kg, he is a small but magnificent specimen and already counts as a large dog. He is currently 8 months old and is almost, but not quite, fully grown. He will not gain much more height. His heart is at least as big as his size. Even though he still seems a bit awkward as he walks around, all eyes are on him. One might think he is still getting used to his size and learning to coordinate his long legs. But what is cuter than watching him run around? For Elijah is incredibly sweet, friendly, and affectionate and wishes for so much attention and love. He is also well-tempered with other dogs and is playful for his age. Visually, Elijah resembles a herding dog mix. His fluffy fur and gentle gaze fit perfectly with his charming nature. However, herding dogs are independent thinkers and not command recipients. They form strong bonds with their people, and most people with herding dogs do not want other breeds. However, clear and sovereign leadership is important with these dogs. Just now, as puberty approaches and his mind can sometimes waver. We wish for Elijah people who either already have experience or are willing to learn what it means to give a home to one of these special dogs. For Elijah, we wish for a home with plenty of space, ideally with a garden, with people who can give him security and challenge him both physically and mentally. With the right mix of patience, structure, and affection, he will develop into a loyal companion who loves his family above all. Elijah can be adopted after a positive evaluation. He is vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas, and dewormed and brings an EU pet passport with him. Elijah would also be very happy with a foster home. Who will give this wonderful young dog a home full of security? A big thank you to Andrea W.! Thank you for giving Elijah an identity and thus the chance at a home. As of: 22.04.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 22.04.2026

About Elijah

What life with Elijah looks like

Elijah is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elijah, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elijah?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elijah on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elijah if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elijah already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elijah isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elijah and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
