Adopt Ella

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Hi, I'm Ella, a mix breed mountain dog from Greece. I am gentle, energetic and cheerful, although I am sometimes quite impressed by everything life shows me. ... The world is big and full of stimuli, and I have to learn to understand them step by step. New people seem exciting at first, but after a calm introduction it soon gets better. When I trust someone, I can play nicely, enjoy long cuddles and show my soft nature. Outside during walks I show reactive behavior. All the stimuli around me give me a lot of tension. Therefore, I need clear and calm guidance to learn that the outside world can also be safe and relaxed. At Het Huis van de Dieren they are working together with me on this, and I take my own steps in that. I am a beautiful dog to watch: I move well, have an elegant posture and a nice curly tail I am proud of. In the evening and night I guard the yard together with Bianca and Rummi - a task I take seriously and which also gives me a feeling of security. With the right guidance, trust and time I will continue to grow. I do my best, every day again. 🐾

About Ella

What life with Ella looks like

Ella is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Het Huis van de Dieren in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ella, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ella?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Het Huis van de Dieren handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ella on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ella if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Het Huis van de Dieren will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ella already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ella isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Het Huis van de Dieren early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ella and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
