Ellie

Female · Puppy · 14 months

Ellie was brought to us due to a lack of time. And that's exactly what Ellie needs. Because it's a super active puppy. It has a lot of energy, so it's really looking for a master who can keep up with it. Figuratively and literally. There's something of a greyhound in it, which you can see. Ellie is a year old and still needs quite a bit of guidance. It originally came from Romania and has already been in the Netherlands for 8 months. There was an immediate puppy class with it to strengthen the bond and teach the basic principles. But you can still see that the Dutch circumstances are different for her. So traffic sounds are still a bit challenging, and you'll need to help her with that a bit more. With treats, she's very trainable, so that's the solution. Men are also still a bit challenging for her. If you let the introduction to Ellie go at its own pace, that's fine. The commands that Ellie has learned are in English, so the switch to Dutch still needs to happen. We're looking for a home for Ellie where the dog has a big role in the household. Those people are out there. Lots of sports, walking, and playing games together, Ellie is up for anything as long as it can stay active. A home without other pets or children. That kind of busy environment is not what Ellie is looking forward to. A house with a garden is super great. Inside a cozy cushion and Ellie is happy. This animal needs to be the only pet in the home.

NL·Show original

About Ellie

What life with Ellie looks like

Ellie is a puppy/kitten dog waiting at Dierenasiel Utrecht in Utrecht.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ellie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ellie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Utrecht handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ellie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ellie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Utrecht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ellie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ellie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Utrecht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ellie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
