Emil

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Emil is a calm, kind and gentle cat looking for a safe home with people who let him get to know them in his own time. In the long term I want a home where I can explore the world outside in a safe area. I was born in 2019. Not so long ago I lost my home and life took a sudden turn. Now I hope to find a new home where I can feel safe again and want a place where I can be myself and get the time I need to settle down. I am a calm boy with a big heart. Every day I look forward to meeting you when you come home, and one of the best things I know is having my humans nearby. I may not jump into your lap right away, but I like being around you. At night you can find me sleeping on the chair next to your bed or visiting your bed for a little while. I love cuddling, but I like to take the initiative myself. When I feel safe, I will come over for some attention - and belly rubs are actually one of my favorites! I also really enjoy being groomed, and handling is usually fine. You can lift me up, but I will politely let you know when enough is enough. When new people visit, I often stay in the background at first. After a while curiosity usually wins, and then I come forward to say hello. That's why I hope to find a home with people who understand that trust takes time.

About Emil

What life with Emil looks like

Emil is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo in Oslo.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emil, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emil?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emil on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emil if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emil already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emil isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Oslo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emil and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
