Ernie

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

mixed breed Ernie – ready for his new life Together with his four siblings, Ernie is among the many puppies currently living in our Bulgarian partner shelter. But the young male dog should not grow up there. He wishes for a loving home or a foster home where he can arrive and grow up protected. Ernie shows typical puppy behavior, being open, curious, and playful. He greets people friendly and openly, gets along well with other dogs, and looks forward to any attention. Of course, Ernie is still at the beginning of his life and has much to learn about what it takes to live harmoniously. His future people should be aware of what it means to accompany a puppy on its journey to adulthood. With patience, loving consistency, and a positive approach, Ernie will surely develop into a loyal companion. Perhaps there is also a part of a herding dog in Ernie. Characteristic traits should therefore be considered. A home in a rural area with a securely fenced garden would be particularly suitable for him. Ernie wants to finally arrive, belong, and be loved. He hopes that he will not have to grow up together with his siblings in the animal shelter but will soon find his own family. Who will give the beautiful Ernie the chance at a happy dog life? Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also be a challenge. The dogs bring a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations with them and need time to adjust to their new life. If you have serious interest in adopting Ernie, please contact the responsible mediator at SALVA Hundehilfe. We would also be very happy to hear about the possibility of a foster home.

About Ernie

What life with Ernie looks like

Ernie is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ernie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ernie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ernie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ernie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ernie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ernie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ernie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
