(Can have video) UPDATE May 2026: It seems that Eros is slowly getting used to his new environment and is showing what a true Podenco is capable of. He is constantly on the move in the open, with his nose working. There is sniffing here and there, all in team with the other Podencos. When it comes to people he doesn't know, he shows reserve and also disinterest. People he knows, he greets briefly and kindly. Eros should go to a home with people who have taken in the breed and have learned to love it; then Eros will surely be a great companion, provided you let him continue to express his independence. The use of his nose, long, extensive and varied walks would definitely be something Eros would love. But he still needs the right people for this. Update January 2026: Since Eros came to PROA last summer, he has made small but important progress. He shares his kennel with the friendly and open Chimo and is gradually learning from his natural way of dealing with people. Eros has lost his great fear, especially of people. He looks more content, no longer driven only by his big fears. He wants to get closer to people he knows, but still isn't really brave enough. Eros can now enjoy cuddles and the presence of familiar people up to a certain extent, but he is still a very cautious dog who needs a lot of time to open up to new people and situations. Eros is looking for a home with patient, calm, lovingly consistent and experienced people who understand that "a lot of time" is not measured in days or weeks, but in months and years. His previous development indicates that Eros will continue to develop positively with the right people, who do not confirm his worries and fears, but accompany him on his way with calmness and secure guidance. He will eventually be a happy dog in his familiar environment, who may have a mischievous streak typical of a Podenco and can be a surprise now and then. At least one confident, people-oriented and social fellow animal should already be present, who can be a role model and a strong shoulder for Eros to lean on. Eros is not suitable for city life. Eros was surrendered together with three other dogs by a hunter who no longer had use for them. We don't know what Eros and his fellow dogs experienced or didn't experience with their old owner, but the fact is that even Eros is still completely overwhelmed at the animal shelter. The new environment, the people, everything is so stressful for him that he just wants to hide and/or run away right now. Eros needs time to arrive, to get accustomed and to lose his fears before we can come up with a meaningful character description of this young male dog. Eros needs a home with patient, quiet, lovingly consistent and experienced people who do not confirm his worries and fears, but accompany him on his way with calmness and secure guidance, and who have thoroughly familiarized themselves with the Podenco breed. Eros starts from zero, a long way lies ahead of him, yet we are confident that he will gain trust in his people and then be able to live a life that brings joy and happiness. Eros travels microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, tested for all Mediterranean diseases, a blood test of the organ values will also be done before travel arrangements. (mit Video) UPDATE Mai 2026: So langsam scheint Eros sich eingelebt zu haben und zeigt, was so alles in einem waschechten Podenco steckt. Er ist im Freilauf ständig unterwegs, die Nase dabei im Einsatz. Es wird hier geschnüffelt, da geschnüffelt, das Ganze auch im Team mit den anderen Podencos. Menschen gegenüber, sofern er sie nicht kennt, zeigt er sich reserviert und auch desinteressiert. Menschen die er kennt, begrüßt er kurz und freundlich. Eros sollte in ein Zuhause bei Menschen, die sich der Rasse angenommen und sie lieben gelernt haben, dann wird aus Eros sicherlich ein toller Begleiter, sofern man ihn seine Selbstständigkeit auch weiterhin ausleben lässt. Die Nase einsetzen, lange, ausgiebige und abwechslungsreiche Spaziergänge fände Eros sicherlich total schön. Hierfür fehlen ihm aber noch die richtigen Menschen. Update Januar 2026: Seit Eros im Sommer vergangenen Jahres zur PROA gekommen ist, hat er kleine, wichtige Fortschritte gemacht. Er teilt sich den Zwinger mit dem freundlichen und aufgeschlossenen Chimo und schaut sich nach und nach dessen selbstverständlichem Umgang mit Menschen ab. Die große Panik vor allem und jedem hat Eros verloren. Er wirkt zufriedener, nicht mehr nur getrieben von seinen großen Ängsten. Er möchte sich ihm bekannten Menschen annähern, traut sich aber noch nicht wirklich. Eros kann Streicheleinheiten und die Anwesenheit vertrauter Personen inzwischen bis zu einem bestimmten Grad genießen, ist aber immer noch ein übervorsichtiger Hund, der viel Zeit braucht, um sich neuen Menschen / Situationen zu öffnen. Eros sucht ein Zuhause bei Menschen mit viel Geduld, Erfahrung, Flexibilität und Kompromissbereitschaft. Menschen, die wissen, dass „viel Zeit“ nicht in Tagen oder Wochen, sondern in Monaten und Jahren gemessen wird. Seine bisherige Entwicklung weist darauf hin, dass sich Eros bei den richtigen Menschen, die ihn nicht in seinen Sorgen und Ängsten bestätigen, sondern mit Gelassenheit und sicherer Führung auf seinem Weg begleiten, weiter positiv entwickeln wird und er in seinem vertrauten Umfeld irgendwann ein fröhlicher Hund sein wird, der podencotypisch zwischendurch den Schalk im Nacken haben und für die ein oder andere Überraschung gut sein wird. Mindestens ein souveräner, menschenbezogener und sozialer Artgenosse, der Eros Vorbild und starke Schulter zum Anlehnen sein kann, sollte bereits vorhanden sein. Eros eignet sich nicht für das Stadtleben. Eros wurde zusammen mit drei weiteren Hunden von einem Jäger abgegeben, der keine Verwendung mehr für sie hatte. Wir wissen nicht, was Eros und seine Leidensgenossen bei seinem alten Besitzer erlebt oder nicht erlebt haben, Fakt ist aber, dass auch Eros im Tierheim noch hoffnungslos überfordert ist. Die neue Umgebung, die Menschen, alles stresst ihn so sehr, dass er sich zurzeit nur verstecken und/oder fliehen möchte. Eros braucht jetzt Zeit um anzukommen, sich einzugewöhnen und seine Ängste zu verlieren, bevor wir zu einer aussagekräftigen Charakterbeschreibung des jungen Rüden gelangen können. Eros wird ein Zuhause bei geduldigen, ruhigen, liebevoll konsequenten und hundeerfahrenen Menschen brauchen, die ihn nicht in seinen Sorgen und Ängsten bestätigen sondern mit Gelassenheit und sicherer Führung auf seinem Weg begleiten und sich mit der Rasse Podenco eingehend auseinandergesetzt haben. Eros fängt bei null an, ein langer Weg liegt vor ihm, dennoch sind wir zuversichtlich, dass er Vertrauen in seine(n) Menschen fassen wird und dann auch ein Leben führen kann, dass Freude und Fröhlichkeit mitbringt. Eros reist gechipt, geimpft, kastriert, auf alle Mittelmeerkrankheiten getestet, ebenfalls wird vor Ausreise ein Blutbild der Organwerte erstellt.
