Ferrero

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 4 years

Ferrero is a 2003 born riding pony gelding and served as riding school horse for the Reiterverein Bayer Uerdingen in Krefeld. He was the favorite of many riding school students, but unfortunately suffered a fetlock trauma and became severely lame. Unlike some riding establishments that often continue to ride lame horses in lessons, Ferrero was given exemplary veterinary care and was led in a walk for six months. Unfortunately, he became lame again after the first riding lesson. Without a rider’s weight, however, he showed himself to be cheerful and spirited. Since riding clubs are also economic enterprises and cannot afford to feed horses that are no longer rideable, Ferrero had to leave the farm. Finding a good home for such horses where they are not ridden at all is not so easy. Therefore, the transport to the horse butcher was on the table. Fortunately, contact with the Reiterverein was made through our bailer and farrier at the Pferdeschutzhof Korschenbroich. On April 2, 2022, Ferrero moved to Korschenbroich and can now lead a relaxed retired life. For his luck, he now only lacks sponsors and godparents.

DE·Show original

About Ferrero

What life with Ferrero looks like

Ferrero is a medium-sized adult mixed breed horse waiting at Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. in Drolshagen.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

Paperwork, vet checks and transport rules differ by species and by country. Ask the shelter what is included and what you will need to arrange before you commit.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ferrero, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ferrero?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ferrero on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ferrero if I live in another country?: Sometimes. Whether a horse can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Ferrero already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: What a horse comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. directly what is included and what Ferrero still needs.
What happens if Ferrero isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ferrero and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
