Adopt Fientje

Podenco · Female · Senior · 10 years

animal shelter Tenerife (Sabine) Input 2 March 2026: Fientje (Fini), is a beautiful girl with a sad story. She has always had a home and her own human. Unfortunately, not the hygienic conditions or minimal "luxuries" as we know them. Her owner was mentally ill and didn't know how to better care for her, but still loved his dogs very much. After a home visit, Fientje and her two dog friends were taken into custody and brought to the animal shelter. The dogs were not "abused," Fientje also has no traumas or fears, but they urgently needed to be washed, dewormed, flea treated and well fed. They had a loving owner who couldn't properly care for them (or himself) and lived among the garbage in the house, but for Fientje this was her world and her beloved human, and she clearly misses it greatly at the animal shelter. A private place, peace, a private human to be loyal to... Fientje is people-oriented and really enjoys our small bits of attention. You can tell she really craves love and attention. The daily walks around the animal shelter are the highlight of her days behind bars. The walks start very enthusiastic. How happy she is when she realizes we are going for a walk! Cheerfully and gratefully she comes towards us. Once on the walk, she becomes calmer. Then she knows she doesn't have to jump above the rest, that this is her moment, that she's in the spotlight, that she can join... Then she settles down and enjoys the walk, sniffing but still attentive that we are there. It's nice to see her enjoying it. In her group she was quickly accepted upon arrival, she has been with us for more than two months now. She has an uncomplicated character and grew up with two other dogs at home. She is playful and has a stable and fair character in the pack where she gets along well with everyone. When a dog comes from a home, you can see that they find it especially difficult in the animal shelter. Therefore, we also hope that Fientje will be noticed soon and can once again enjoy those "luxuries" but on a better place with an owner who can take care of her as she deserves. This loyal and grateful girl definitely has many years of companionship to offer to the person who can give her a place in their home and heart! Fientje is healthy, vaccinated and ready to travel. Her suitcase is already packed!

About Fientje

What life with Fientje looks like

Fientje is a small senior podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fientje, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fientje?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fientje on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fientje if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fientje already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fientje isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fientje and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
