Adopt Fientje

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

* for an explanation, please read Why we are cautious about placing our dogs with families with (young) children. Personality: Fientje is a cheerful, sweet and energetic pup at home. Outside and for example when visiting, she is still uncertain. Give this lovely little girl peace, patience and time and she will become your dearest companion 🥰 Fientje needs an adopter who can read her body language well and carefully watch over Fientje's boundaries and sensitivities. Behavior at home: At home, Fientje is cheerful, energetic, curious and a cuddly bottom. Her favorite spot is next to you on the couch, but she can also sleep nicely on her own spot. She sometimes needs help to get enough rest; Fientje is a busy bite but after everything she has experienced in her life, she actually needs a lot of sleep. That's why we like to place Fientje in a quiet household. Occasionally someone visits her foster family. Fientje finds this very exciting; support and reassurance from her host mother helps her to calm down. Of course, it also helps if the visitor is properly instructed and simply ignores her. Fientje likes to play a lot, both with the other dog in her foster family and with her people. She is a dog that - in a familiar situation - likes to be at the front with her nose 🥰 In her foster family there are no cats. If Fientje sees one outside, she is curious and has no tendency to chase after it. We think she could live with cats that are used to dogs and that don't run away from her. Fientje still finds being left alone at home difficult. In her future home, she first needs to feel completely safe, then step by step it can start with being alone. Of course, our team is happy to give tips!

Fientje vindt even alleen thuis blijven nog moeilijk.

About Fientje

What life with Fientje looks like

Fientje is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fientje, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fientje?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fientje on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fientje if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fientje already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fientje isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fientje and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
